Luck with aeration?

Anyone have their lawn aerated? Should we do it regularly or just one time?

We have clay soil, the yard is maybe a third weeds and crabgrass. We just want to get it soft and green without harsh chemicals.

DH had the lawn aerated for the first time last week. Should we reseed, & spread a sprinkle of manure or compost? It might be hard to do the latter as our yard front/back is rather large. We aren't in a hurry to have a lush lawn, just want to get on the right track for a better lawn in the future.

Thanks in a advance for any advice?

I aerate twice a year. Overseeding and fertilizer will help but crabrgass will probably rule your yard as well as the rest of the world one day without some chemical or mechanical help. There is an organic crabgrass killer that's basically combination of different flour but it is really pricey.

I've dealt with my crabgrass by tilling and sewing new grass. As the new grass came in I got on my knees and yanked up the crabgrass by the roots. Not fun but I'm cheap labor.

Thanks for the idea; I'll keep it in mind if I ever have kids
