Advice for healthier lawn

I am trying to get a thicker, healthier lawn. I have a large bare spot in the middle of the yard when we once had a pool. My front banks seem to be suffering from mild erosion. I think a thicker lawn will help. My question is, how would I go about doing this? What order would I go in? Weed kill, then plant grass? Or vice verse. I’m also curious if I should plug aerate the lawn? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Was the pool broken up or just filled in. if it was just filled in and no drainage was created by breaking up the bottom of the pool, it could be a reason why the bare spot exists. What kind of grass do you have? The type of grass you have can help improve on thickness. Otherwise generally, aerate, dethatch, top dress and feed the lawn.

Many people overseed their lawns on the mainland, but in the tropics we usually just repair with sod plugs. The birds will eat the grass seeds and most tropical grasses don't establish well from seed. The seed that does grow are weeds.
