Lawn Care for Fall - establishing fescue

Hello,
I am a new member to this site. I have some general timeline questions for lawn care. I live in the eastern region of Tennessee, which I believe is smack dab in the middle of the transition zone.

I am 1 year in on establishing zoysia grass in my front yard. It has filled in very nicely and I am excited about my lawn. In the backyard, however, is another story. I have some grass, some weeds, etc., etc. I believe there is some Bermuda, some fescue, and several broad leaf weed species. I am interested in converting the back yard to fescue, as I have several large trees providing too much shade for zoysia or Bermuda (I think).

My question is this: Would it be appropriate at this time of year (September) to spray a broad leaf herbicide first? Would I want to then aerate the soil and then apply fescue seed in early to mid-October? How long, if appropriate, would I need to wait after spraying the broad leaf herbicide before aerating and spreading the seed?

Thanks so much for any and all help given.
