Advice to rid lawn of wild lettuce

My backyard has been invaded by what I'm being told as "wild lettuce". I cut the lawn every week but they grow back at an extremely fast rate about a foot or so high. Does anyone know how I can get rid of them? There are way too many to dig out. I am hoping I don't have to kill my entire lawn in the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Side note: This is new construction so my lawn used to be a field...
