Helpful diagnosis on why my grass has died (pics attached)?

https://imgur.com/a/N4FkA

Hello, I laid this turf (see above gallery) last summer. However, there appears to be large patches of dead grass around the right and end border. This does correlate somewhat to sunlight exposure, but not perfectly. I am wondering if there is some kind of bug or insect causing the problem? Is it the needles? The tree type is Leylandii Cyprus.

Any help is much appreciated :)

My guess is too much shade. Grass needs a lot of sun unless you select a shade tolerant grass. St. Augustine is a shade tolerant grass for the south. Please update your profile with your location.
