Help identifying problem

I applied a organic corn feed/weed preventor early spring. My grass was greener and thicker than any other years. 2 weeks ago I noticed brown patches and thinning and now dead grass. Any help identifying the cause would be appreciated.

By organic corn feed/weed preventor you mean corn gluten meal? It is supposed to work as pre-emergent weed control, but only if you use a lot of it (expensive!) and apply it early enough in spring (when the forsythias bloom).

It works well as nitrogen additive for your grass and should not have killed it, unless you really, really used a lot.

I tried it one time, but since it was so pricey, I used much less than specified. At that concentration it worked nicely as fertilizer - for the grass AND the weeds. Everything was very green!

I looked and did not find any reports of corn gluten meal killing grass.
