New Home Owner - Lawn renovation

I recently moved into a new home in the Dallas area and for the first time in my life I m faced with caring for my own lawn. The lawn in the front of the house is in decent shape, but the problem areas are the back yard and the sides of the garage driveway.
There are huge bare patches on the sides of the driveway with literally no grass and the same goes for the backyard. On reading information online I see that it is recommended to seed in the fall. Now that I have missed the boat, what should be my plan going forward? Is there anything I can do now to get the bare patches to fill in by summer?
Also recommendations on what kind of grass seed to use would be greatly appreciated.

NB: Average monthly temperatures for Dallas in Jan - 47, Feb - 51, March - 59

Thanks a lot for your reply. It does help a lot knowing that seeding now is not a good option.

The sides of the driveway do receive little light due to trees and the house. I may have to come up with a more creative solution to hide the bare patches.
