Hi Newbie here

Was wondering if anybody could give me a suitable weedkiller to control , dandelions, docks , daisies etc

I will be using it on the lawn but also on artificial turf so it would need to be suitable for both

I am not sure which weedkillers would damage artificial turf and which would not

Any help would be much appreciated

What type of grass do you have?

Your artificial turf gets weeds? Are they artificial too?

One thing to think about is corn gluten meal. It is a natural corn product that works as a pre-emergent weed suppressant. So you have to apply it early in the spring, before the dandelions and what not come up. You have to apply it fairly thickly for it to work. It suppresses the weeds and then breaks down into basically a nitrogen fertilizer. It is not a poison and therefore will not necessarily kill every weed, but it will slow them down and it is harmless. Probably harmless to the artificial turf too, though that isn't something I would know.

The black liner laid below turf now has tears in it which is allowing weeds to appear through to the surface

for the artificial turf, a "vegetation killer" may be a better choice -

"weed killers" are usually designed to be specific - I.e. kill a weed, not the grass.

I should think anything sprouting in an artificial turf area is un-wanted....

most of the commercial stuff contains oily compounds - those may react with the plastic turf - you'll need to consult the manufacturer of the specific artificial stuff installed to see if they can offer any advice.

strong vinegar also works as a vegetation killer - not quite as "right now effective" as the chems but it would be a safe alternative that can be used repeatedly.

weed killers for the grass area . . .
in my experience some are more effective against certain weeds - a a different brand/formulation may work better on other weeds - despite the fact they're labelled for both weeds....

read the labels to spot their basic chemical formulations.

I'm afraid you need 2 differant weed killers one for the lawn being a selective weed killer which is a hormone based weed killer, then a total weed killer for the AstroTurf being Round Up or any Glyphosphate based weed killer bare in mind though that deep rooted perreniels may need a second treatment. As a landscape gardener and gardener I've used both for 24 yrs and know they both work and as far as I'm aware there isn't a weed killer to do both tasks effectively on the 2 differant surfaces.

toss out some Ground Clear, that should take care of anything plantlife for a looong time
