What type of grass is this and how do I KILL it

I usually just rip it out and the other kind that has trailers is just plain nasty. It has broad shoots and grows in clumps. Makes my lawn look like garbage. Thanks!

Try dumping a bunch of vinegar on it. Scorch the whole area.
KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!
Sometimes I've killed things with fire and then just fixed the soil because....it just seems more efficient to me in the long run for certain situations.

To my knowledge you cannot kill it without killing the other grass. You will have to reseed if you do.

To me it looks like a type of Rye grass. I have some in my yard and just mowe it. To get rid of it you could take a small paint brush and paint some of the leaves with Roundup. I have done that on trees around sensative plants.

That looks just like the type of grass that covers the coastal areas of Australia.
I hate it as well. It's big, it's hard, spiky and it's ITCHY. And it looks just plain tacky.
