Reviving a sod lawn

Hello All,

Thank you in advance for your assistance and advice.

I am new to NY and things grow differently here than San Diego, where I am from. Last year I bought a house, and the lawn was thrashed! I ripped it all out and laid a new sod lawn. Almost killed me! Watered properly, and by the end of the season the lawn looked fairly well established. It did well through winter, and now into Spring, however, there are a few areas in my backyard which are not taking. It seems like the sod took, as in became one with the soil below, but very little grass growing.

Would it be possible to thatch the area, and plant new seed? Would it be better to do something else? It would not be reasonable to dig up the area and add soil to plant seed, as the area is too large.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

What month was it that you decided to remove the old sod and put new stuff in? And how often were you watering and what time were you usually watering it at?
