re: when seed grass

Hi all

I live in beautiful Victoria, BC, Canada.

I'm going to be seeding an area of my backyard to grass. Before I do this, I'm going to be putting down some lawn mix soil in order to prep the area.

My question(s) revolves around timing... Is it too early to plant grass seed? Is it killled by frosts, or is grass seed solely light/moisture dependent?

thanks all

Hi. In answer to your question, if there is a chance that the temperature will be below freezing it will greatly hinder the germination of the seed. I live in Illinois and I never plant seed prior to April 15th for this reason. On the flip side, I wouldn't plant seed after October 15th for the same reason.
