Should I prioritize sprinkler system?

I'm an owner of newly built house (about 1 year) in a new neighborhood, and within that span of time, I've managed to kill my lawn.

I have St.Augustine grass, and it's been decimated by chinch bugs. I've started to fill in some of the dead grass by buying a couple patches of St.Augustine from a gardening center, and hopefully it won't be too long until it starts to look the same way from when I got the house.

Would it be a good idea to have a sprinkler system installed now before winter comes? Or would it be a better idea to wait until spring?

I do not know where sugar land is but if it does not freeze you would have time for the scars to heal by next summer. Or do it in early spring.

Thanks for the advice. Sugar Land is actually just right outside of Houston, TX.

Our winters don't really get that freezing until later in the season.
