Tiny thorns in yard, very painful

What is the best chemical, item to use to kill the small painful thorn type objects in a lawn? That is NOT dangerous to pets? Please advice with sound knowledge:-)

For Marlingardener.........this is for a friend in Texas, as you mentioned. But, there are thousands, and would take a week or more to squirt each one in an acre yard of them.
Someone else sent me pics of gloves that they use..........someone surely knows something to spray with a sprayer to kill these tiny thorns in a large area. If so, please advise........thanks!

I don't think you mentioned that the area in question is that big in the original post, but in any case, you did say:

Personally, I don't even use Roundup especially since some new facts have come to light, and most other broadleaf type herbicides that leave the grass standing (I assume that's what you are looking for) have pretty significant/profound environmental implications --> I.e. Hazard to pets, though plenty of people use them without a second thought.

I suppose another option is to till and re-till the area or use other organic herbicide to kill off everything, but I don't think that's what you are looking for....
Are you really planning to create an acre+ " lawn"?

This is not from experience, but logically, it seems like you could section off the areas and treat them in turn. it would seem less daunting, and this would at least provide opportunity for non-use for whatever period is deemed "safe" after application, though I would recommend you research that point thoroughly before actually spraying.

Thanks applestar. Yeah, I agree with all you say. I was just trying to recall when I lived in Florida, my husband and I had the same problem with them. Couldn't even walk thru our acre of fenced in land with flip flops on. They are really a big nuisance!!! I had thought someone or place had told us of something to use, just couldn't recall what, and that was many moons ago.
