my lawn is dead!!!!

I want to put in sod or hydro seed what should I do with my dead lawn first

Find out why it is dead. Make sure your soil is good. Till it and flatten it. Pick good seed.

Yep like already said try to establish why the lawn is dead. You very well may need to completely strip the old stuff away, put down new soil and start again.
