Hard to grow grass

We recently got rid of our Mastiff and lets just say she dug and tore the yard apart and now we are having a difficult time growing the grass in certain areas and most of the other parts look yellow and dead. I live in hawaii but the area this grass is in is shaded by small treeish shrubs. We just placed down some grass seed and tough turf (I think its called).

Would blood meal work? Or if anyone has any other remedy for this situation I am more then willing to try at this point.

Thank you

Di you use a shade grass mix? Hard to know what is going on in your soil but some bone meal may help or some Ironite or water. What is the PH of the soil?
