Similar to Horsetail but will grow in the shade

I planted some horsetail in a shady spot and kept it well watered but it has all died because, I assume, due to lack of direct sunlight.
Can someone recommend a similar grass that will grow in the shade. Something that is very vertical and about 18 inches high. (Please not bamboo).

A while back, we had a discussion about "horsetail." Turns out that there are at least THREE different plants in the United States that go by this same name.

There is a member of the horsetail family that grows in forests. It's Equisetum pratense, commonly known as Shade Horsetail, or Shady Horsetail.
