Indoor Miniature Roses.

Sun Oct 01, 2017 11:34 am

Hi! I, also, have Miniature Roses (indoors), that have dying leaves. I imagine I am watering them too much? Once per week. Plus, I Mist them at the same time. I have six of them altogether in a 5-inch pot, from the store. I, also, have another pot, in a 5-inch pot, with six roses in it. Where I live, I can leave them outdoors all Winter. It is Fall here now, and wish to wait until Spring to plant all of them outside. But, the leaves are dying off, and I am afraid they won't last until Spring. I usually have Great Luck  with Miniatures, when I plant them outside in warmer weather. We are getting a touch of Frost at nights. Any ideas re: dying leaves and watering, and keeping them indoors until Spring? Thanks! O:)

Probably not nearly enough light. I don't know where you are located, but they are quite cold hardy. I have kept mini rose bushes alive for many years in an outdoor container when I lived in zone 6. In very cold conditions like that, they do benefit from some winter protection, but they need the cold dormancy. Once they are fully dormant, they can be brought in to somewhere like an unheated garage. In those circumstances, water very little.

It may just be dropping leaves because it is preparing for winter, but I think it would still benefit from not being indoors.

This is not a miniature, but this is what rose bushes look like in winter:

Hi! I just received these two potted Miniature Roses, recently, from a store. Since it is getting cold now, I thought I should wait until Spring to put them in the Ground. My problem is, also, there are numerous plants in each 5-inch pot: 6 plants in one 5-inch pot and 5 plants in the other 5-inch pot. Before Spring, I mean right now, should all of the Roses be put in separate pots? If so, what size pot? :?
Plus, is it OK to put them in the ground Now? Where I live, southern Ontario, I have had Miniature Roses in the past, that I left outside all Winter. I just don't know if it is too late in the year to plant them outside.

You can wait until spring to put them in the ground, just don't leave the containers indoors while you are doing that.

You don't need to separate them until you put them in the ground. They will be going dormant soon, so won't be competing with each other.

Whether you can put them in the ground now, depends on if they will have time to put out roots into the soil before the ground freezes. The first frost date is not the ground freeze date, it takes longer for that to happen.
