When to Dig Out Sucker on Hydrangea Standard / Tree?

Hi, I've got a hydrangea standard/tree and there is a sucker on the bottom. I thought I'd wait until Fall and either dig it out from the tree or cut it off? Then, do I plant it somewhere else, or put it in water, let roots develop, and then plant it?

As long as it has roots and the environment is favorable, you could cut it off but I would definitely do it in Spring so the mother plant can take care of it during winter if necessary. Once you separate them, allow the sucker to grow on its original location for a few more weeks. Consider keeping it potted if it seems puny or has problems so it can get used to the area when transplanted back into the ground.
