I got one opinion from a very nice lady at Pike's Nursery so then I wanted to get a few more.

I was given a potted hydrangea in January for my birthday. I planted it my yard next to my house in March. I thought it had died but lo and behold, it sprouted leaves. In May, my father passed away and I was given another potted hydrangea that was in full bloom that I places on my back porch. I realized afer observing this plant and it's reaction to full on HOT morning and early afternoon sun that I needed to move both. So I planted my father's hydrangea in a place that gets dappled shade on the edge of the wood.

What I want to know is if I should go ahead and transplant my birthday hydrangea now or wait until October when it goes dormant? My father's Hydrangea is big leaf. I think that both are but not sure.

Techincally you can move it now but, being practical, you may want to wait. It seems to be happy there now so, if you can do it at a time when transplant shock is minimized and milder temperatures reign supreme, wait.

.... especially if you live in the lower half of the state, where you are under an extreme or exceptional drought.
