flowers losing color, turning green

My hydrangea flowers were a beautiful pink. (I have 2, in pots.) In both pots, the pink is fading, and the blooms are turning green. They are not browning, and feel and look healthy, except for the color. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Nothing. You are actually doing very well. As hydrangea blooms mature, they change colors, the sequence of which depends on the variety of hydrangea. Some start pink and change to green then brown; others start green and change to white, then pink; then brown; etc. It is normal and nothing to be afraid of.

You may also observe some splotches or dots this time of the year on the blooms. I have some unnamed hydrangeas whose leaves also went from pink to green and the green blooms have a few dark pink dots here and there. It may be fungi but some varieties tend to have these dots all the time so I do not take action against that.

If the hydrangea that you have is remontant (which means that it blooms more than once in a growing season), you can deadhead the blooms if you do not like the green color and the shrub will bloom again in 4-6 weeks, provided the weather and the length of your growing season are adequate. For information on deadheading (and much more), visit https://www.hydrangeashydrangeas.com/pruning.html
and go to the section titled "Method I"; then scroll down until you see a sub-section titled "REMOVING OLD BLOOMS".

Does this help you, dbacksfan001?
