no buds on my hydrangeas
I have had hydrangeas for 3 years. The first year the bushes had buds and the flowers were very nice looking. Since then I have had nothing other than very healthy looking bushes. Lots of green leaves but no flowers. What can I do to make these flower?
One guess could be they are lacking a nutrient - though I don't know which nutrient they would need to help produce a bloom.
If there was a hard freeze just as your hydrangeas were beginning to leaf out, it may have damaged the plant's older growth to the point that it had to start over with new growth entirely. Some hydrangeas bloom only on old growth.
The same is true if you trimmed them last Fall, you may have cut off this year's bloom.
Hope that helps!
