Did my hydrangea make it through winter

This is my first spring with a hydrangea plant. Although the base of the plant is beginning to show signs of life, the "branches" from last years growth look dead. What should I do? Does my plant have a chance for summer?

Your plant is fine. As your new growth appears, you can cut off the old growth that the plant has decided not to renew. :)

A weekly dose of liquid organic fertilizer will help as well :)
