Does anyone know about this 'Hime' hydrangea?

In a recent trip to Japan I saw these hydrangeas  the Japanese name is ‘hime.’ Does anyone know if I can get this variety of hydrangea in the US? If so, does it have a different name here? I've already searched some internet nurseries and didn't see it.

I'd appreciate any help I can get, even if it's suggestions for a different but similar cultivar. Thanks! :D

Did you by chance get a scientific name for the "hime" hydrangea? The scientific name would be the same, whether in Japan or the United States.

And don't be misled by a photograph of a pink hydrangea whereas the hime in the photo is blue. The color of a hydrangea is pretty easy to change from pink to blue (not so easy the other way around, though).

Good luck!

I wasn't able to get the scientific name, but I will check out that website. I've been doing some more research and it looks 'Penny Mac' or 'Endless Summer' are both similar when they are blue.

I'd agree momo and I think you have hit the nail on the head. Besides, 'Endless Summer' is such a winner you should use that one as much as possible anyway!

Hydrangea serrata Rosea, also known as Hime Ajisai?

Raiko-ji Temple is a famous temple for hydrangeas.

I'm a sucker for a tie-in to J-gardening, Luis... :)

And you are indeed correct, Raiko-ji IS known for the hydrangeas ... 8)

I did not know that...
