How to move a hydrangea

We need to move our large, mature hydrangea within the next month. Has anyone got any tips about how to do this? I note that one of the posters to a related message in this forum says to keep the rootball intact, so that it is a transfer of roots rather than of soil. How should we prepare the new hole?
