Pruned and Composted Hydrangea

It has been really nice outside these last few weekends and last weekend we pruned, put compost on and fertilized our Hydrangea. We also put up a gate around it to protect it from our fun loving puppies! Thought I'd share a photo of it. We are in BC Canada Zone 7, a few more days until last frost! :flower:

Looks very nice. That is what I usually see when leaf out occurs here. But this year, only my oakleafs are showing good or normal foliage. The macs apparently were affected by lots of temperature swings in December-January. Now I am seeing the macs leaf out mostly from the base in many cases, with a few random ones on old wood so I know bloomage will be impacted. There is one Annebelle that has not awakened and is starting to concern me. Camellias were not impacted but the ones that normally bloom in Jan are only now finishing their blooming. Wisteria is also almost done and roses are now blooming or about to start blooming. Happy Spring!

I understand about protecting the shrubbery from the pooches. I have three that have killed many plants in their quest to get the vermin first. Hee hee hee!

Happy Easter everyone,
Luis

Luis,

Hopefully your garden recovers nicely from the wonky weather you had this year! We are still waiting for nicer weather here to do our planting outside, but I don't think another frost is in the forecast for us, just maybe temps around 5C at the lowest. Would love to see photos of your Camellia and Wisteria! We also pruned our Honey Suckle but it hasn't started to bloom either, it is not nice enough weather yet. Can't wait for the last legs of winter to be done with! Here is a photo of our forecast for the next 14 days if you are curious! :-()

Great minds think alike! I also got a winter honeysuckle in the Spring of 2013 after seeing one at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens and getting a whif of the scent. No blooms this year though but at least, it looks healthy. Sorry, I can't post pics. My digital camera died early this year so I cannot take new pics until I go shopping for and purchase a new one. Looks llike you are going to get rain in quite a few days. We are under a drought so I enjoy any that we get. This last Sunday was quite rainy and stayed wet and humid almost all day long. Made me feel like going back to sleep just watching the rain and seeing the dogs sleep. Hee hee hee! They are such a bad influence on rainy days!!!

We LOVE our Honey Suckle. It was here when we moved in, and every year it really makes the yard smell lovely! Sorry to hear about your camera, do you have an idea of what kind you want to purchase? We looked into getting a new camera last year, but after trying a few models realized our old camera is much better until we make the next step in photography which is getting some sort of Rebel Cannon camera. They are considerably more expensive as you have to buy the lenses separate but wow the quality of the photos are magnificent! Good luck to you finding a new one, I'm sure you'll find one you like :D It was raining off and on today, can't wait for our sunny stretch, going to plant some more seeds in containers, and start filling up my flower bed with more compost as I can't dig through the rocks and tree roots as it is right now. We are also building a Hoop House for our vegetables. Lots of projects on the go as you can see!

Chat soon!

Your hydrangea looks wonderful, and you’re way ahead of me with preparing yours for summer. I love the fencing. We have a cat who gets pretty carried away sometimes when chasing critters, so I should probably consider doing the same thing to some of my fragile plants 

We have had enough of the cold weather and when the what do you call that bright light in the clouds?..oh yes sun! When the sun came out we decided to get a head start on the yard. Our first thing we did was pretty much prune and compost the Hydrangea! Thanks for the compliments, we worked hard on it, luckily we had some chicken wire around to make the fence and used a bit of trellis to keep it together. Our dogs used to go crazy and run all around it and we wanted to prevent that this year. We also want to buy a few other bushes like another Rhodo and possibly an Azalea! What kind of plants do you want to protect from your kitty? Our kitties and dogs were using the newly composted flower bed of mine as a littler box so now as a second resort I have decided to do ALL my flowers in containers. I researched them all and they should all do well in them as the containers are quite large. I also am going to do some of my herbs like my Chamomile in hanging baskets. Anyways I've rambled on a bit, must be this heat wave, making me so chatty! Lol..have a great nite!
