Starting Creeping Thyme Indoors.

Hello! I recently purchased some creeping thyme seeds. I'd like to start them indoors since they'd have a better chance of surviving in doing so. However, I am confused as to how many seeds to plant in each cell. Everything says to plant the actual plants about 12" apart but the packet says 500 seeds covers 10sq ft. Which is definitely more than 1 seed per plant. But at that rate it would be over 50 seeds per plant. I am assuming the seeds are to be spread like grass seed but I really need to start them indoors and would like to do plugs. So my question is how many seeds should I put in each starter cell?? Thank you!

Thank you so much!! So one seed (after all the thinning and up potting) will give me a good sized plant? I've got a lot of ground to cover, and I'm new to gardening so I want to make sure I'm starting off on the right foot!
