cut bee balm back?

My bee balm was thriving and enjoying all the rain for awhile. But now the combination of way too much rain and chronically high humidity have resulted in it having a bad case of powdery mildew. Bee balm is susceptible to it anyway, but the conditions haven't helped.

I think it's too advanced for any treatments I am willing to use in my garden to help it. What do you think about just cutting it all down to ground level? I would do that in the fall anyway.

I think I would, just remember to destroy not compost it. The only Caveat is I would not cut it down as far now as in the fall, then finish cutting as you would in the fall.
