Rose of Sharon issues

I live in Central Missouri. My mom has had a Rose of Sharon for many years...at least 10. Last year 1/2 of it got green then awhile later...probably a couple of weeks the other 1/2 turned green. Had blooms over whole bush though. This year only about 1/2 or less actually came back in spring. Do I go ahead and remove all the dead branches from it or wait til fall after the other 1/2 quits blooming. Thank You

You can go ahead and remove dead branches now.

Did you have a really harsh winter, this past winter, like much of the country did? I did and one of my Rose of Sharons got winter killed.

Yes ...apparently it was a really harsh winter....one of my cherry trees died completely...the other 2 are 1/2 gone as well
