Is this a mint plant?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to herb gardening and I bought a "mint" plant from a fellow selling next to the road. However, when I looked up mint online my "mint" plant does not look like the typical mint. When I rub the leaves there is a hint of mint but....

I have uploaded a picture of my plant.

Is it mint?

If so can anyone tell me what type of mint it is?

Thanks in advance.

It looks like some kind of basil. My lemon basil, lime basil, and cinnamon basil all have this kind of smooth, flat and narrow leaf structure, unlike the Genovese or sweet basil typically sold in supermarkets.

I have three kinds of mint -- peppermint, spearmint, and applemint. They all have well defined leaf veins though there are differences in leaf shapes, color, and fuzziness (applemint is very fuzzy).

BTW that hole looks like slug damage. Check underside of the pot and nearby objects.

Thanks Applestar for your response.

I brought the plant with the hole; I don't think the slugs and snails have found my herb babies yet :)

Today is my first pruning day (my sweet basil plants have 5 set of leaves!!!) so I'll remove the damaged leaf from the "mystery" basil.

Thanks again.

Have a good day.
