Basil, again

Basil again, update from me, Midtown Herbs! This has been a wonderful learning curve (aka $ rewards less than anticipated!!). I have going on 40 pots of basil, 10" on to 16, and a few in the ground.

Now for sharing part, and hope this helps. I have 2 -3 in the 10" pots. That works for inside, winter, slower growth, but I would say 2/pot limit for outside optimum conditions. (You folks have suggested this, just backing you up on suggestions!)

Purple. Now I have ruffles and opal I started, and bought a few starts. The ruffles oh so pretty, but for harvesting opal wins. I had started some opal from seed, and most came up green, so another glitch!

Lemon basil. Is more delicate, slower growing, and goes to flower bud too fast. There are at least a couple of varieties of lemon basil. One is pretty, slower to flower, the other coarser and sets flower daily.

FWIW.
Happy gardening and dirt on your hands!
Susan
