Mint rust

Hi all,

I recently bought a divine-smelling variety of spearmint from a local nursery, and planted it in a container that I keep outside. After about a week I noticed the orange spots on it that research told me is called mint rust.

I've never experienced this before and was wondering if you had any advice, since there's a lot of conflicting info out there. I wanted to at least try to save the plant so I cut off all the infected leaves but I think some of the previously 'clean' leaves are started to get it now too. Should I just buy a new plant and start over? Also, do I need to throw out the soil that the plant is in?

Any help much appreciated!

thanks for your reply! Do you think I should do the same with a rosemary plant with powdery mildew? I got it from the same nursery ... won't be buying plants from them anymore ...
