Hi,
First post, I was given this bit of garden to do what I want with by my parents, so I made it into a herb garden! When I first started planting, hadn't got much of a clue what I was doing so I would appreciate your help in identifying these two herbs please.
I bought them about 2 years ago. Now they have grown really big, I'm beginning to doubt if they are actually herbs at all!!
The first one, in mid summer last year flowered taller than me (I'm 5'8 ). It doesn't have much smell, just a mass of green leaves which it keeps all year round.

The second one also grew just as tall and has a yellow flower. In the winter it completely died off, I though I lost it. However it started to shoot through the ground last month and as you see, has got real big again.

Ive never dared to try them in any cooking, but I would like to sometime. I don't know any dishes they are used in. Any ideas would be welcomed thanks.
If anyone could name them and has any more info, hints/ tips I would be very grateful. Thanks
Vicky

Photo #1, the bright green plant is sorrel. Use it as you would spinach. There are several French sorrel recipes (one I make a couple of times every winter is a soup; "winter" here is the season of cold rain) that make use of LOTS of leaves: 4 solid-packed cups, for example.
I don't have photos, but my doughty French sorrel looks just like yours; maybe a bit larger.
