Ginseng and Astragalus

Hi,
I want to try whether these two will energize me or not. Do any of you have any experience with these herbs? Is it better to order real roots or some pills? Which brands are the best quality? I don't know anything and wouldn't want to order fake ginseng and I've heard there's plenty of it to go around.
If you don't have experience with these herbs, you could tell me which herb brands and suppliers you consider to be high quality in general.
