Oregano

Hi, it's my first year growing herbs. I've got parsley, sweet basil, oregano and chives in the garden, so today I went out and picked some of them to add to my tomato sauce. The oregano smells like the oregano you buy dried in a jar, but it tastes much spicier. Is this normal? Is it hot because it's so fresh or is it just the variety I have or something? Is there any way to counter it's 'hot' and just bring out the oregano taste? Thanks!

Try drying some and see how it tastes.
My experience tells me that home grown always is more pungent than store bought.
