Does Oregano reseed itself?

I planted oregano last year. It came up again this year only several times larger. I notice what looks like several small oregano plants growing all around the mother plant but they are not large enough yet to tell for sure if they are really small oregano plants. New plants have 6 leaves so far that appear to be idential to the mother plant.

Mine reseeds almost to the point of being borderline invasive. I have a huge "mother" plant that comes up every year and little baby plants all over the garden (too far away from the mother to be caused by layering). I dug some up this year and put them in a pot and gave them to a friend that never has luck with oregano. I also warned her to cut the tops off before it blooms. Unfortunately it's not a very aromatic oregano so I'll probably pull it and plant something with more culinary worth.
