Has anyone tried growing real Japanese Wasabi?

NEW PROJECT! :()
I want to try growing Wasabi. Has anyone tried it? Any ideas on where to get root pieces (will that work?) or seeds?

Brand-new idea that just popped into my head. Any help will be much appreciated. 8)

Quick search shows that in Japan people grow them as "Water Wasabi" according to the traditional cool, shady, cold-water spring-fed method (like watercress, I suppose) which results in fat roots in 18~24 months OR as "Garden Wasabi" in more-or-less regular garden soil which results in skinny roots. Dry and grind into powder or grate and freeze (but I'm getting WAAY ahead of myself  )

No but I'd love to! I often get cravings for fresh wasabi although they’ve died down substantially now that we’ve been back in Australia for 2 years. The stuff you get in the supermarkets doesn't come anywhere near satisfying my cravings, and to think when I first moved to Japan I hated the stuff……
God-Speed and keep us posted!
