My plant is dying! I need help!

I was gifted this beautiful plant (I believe its a giant birds of paradise...?). I've had it for about two months now and its dying!! I thought at first that some of the leaves suffered from the truck ride over to my place, but its just getting worse! All of the leaves are splitting and the tips are all coming apart :( What do I do?! I don't know how to trim it, I don't know what to add to the water.. I'm at a loss! The container has a water gauge to show that it has plenty of water and I don't turn my heater on, and its not near a vent.. what is happening?

Where the plant was living was it in direct sun? Where you put it in your house is it in direct sun?

When you say "truck" was it in the back of a pick up? Open air travel like that is really rough on plants, especially ones with large leaves like that that catch the wind & whip around. It may take a really long time for the plant to regrow those damaged leaves....if it was exposed to those kind of conditons.

Otherwise: I did a quick "bird of paradise leaves splitting" search and there's quite a few links~could be a humidity situation. Browning of leaf edges are usually a sign of overwatering, (in general) but more research specifically about BoP plants may tell you something else.

Good luck- that's quite the plant!
