No natives to be had

I've been looking around at various nuseries and finding it very difficult to find native plant species. Seems like if I want native plants I must order online, which I don't like doing. Would really love to give natives a try in all my shady areas, still got lots of room. So far I only got a few plants, all of which are non-native, such as the https://stokestropicals.plants.com/Dianella-tasmanica-Variegata-Variegated-Flax-Lily-P95.aspx ; https://www.floridata.com/ref/a/alpi_zer_var.cfm and a couple types of Hostas, which seem to be loved by a certain insect(s).

I've also been running around various neighborhoods and checking out landscapes; I haven't really seen any native species, other than some trees, but I sure do see a lot of exotics. Just venting, very frustrating.

But really I order most of my plants on line and find it easy and convenient and have not had problems with it.

There are native plant nurseries down my way. I also think Washington Oaks State Park south of you periodically has sales of excess plants. You might have to travel to St Johns Co. or further to find native plants nurseries but they are out there. And absolutely the Florida Native Plant Society is the way to source native plants. They will have monthly meetings relatively locally, probably in Jax metro, but they often encompass a couple of counties. If you subscribe to the newsletter, you'll see a few ads or letters for plant suppliers in each issue.

Call or email them, and depending on how much that volunteer knows or is able to do, you might just get a list of local places that will have what you want. Like tinier parks may have a garden society that will sell some exotics and some natives a few times a year. There may be someone nearby who has a ton of coontie seed, or atamasco lily bulbs. Heh, I have a bag of coontie seed that I have no place to plant or I'd have a monoculture yard. They take a few years to get going though.

Native plants people will not have K-mart hours though. I knew one years ago that had two mornings a week, one weekend a month, and most afternoons M-F. That was over toward Tampa.
