These weeds have popped up in profusion in my backyard for a month now. They have 3-clover shaped leaves with slight division in the middle. The petals open up when the sun has warmed the ground and closeup in the evening. Their bright yellow colors brighten up my day. Are they good/bad for my garden? Thanks.

They're oxalis pes caprae, a South African native whose natural predator does *not* live here. There is a current thread at
https://www.helpfulgardener.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=115292
about these plants. Don't bother taking the flowers off; oxalis doesn't propagate via flower-generated seeds. It propagates via subsurface bulbs, from seven to twenty per plant (that's per single stem emanating from the soil).
There have been a few discussions here at The Helpful Gardener on oxalis, but those of us in the SF Bay Area seem to be the...ah...most experienced with this "lovely" plant.
