What is this? Dark green tubular plant with dark bands

Does anybody know what this is? It's a dark green tubular plant with dark bands around "joints". It's not hollow all the way through as there is pith at each joint. It is growing in shade.

Looks like Equisetum hyemale. There was a discussion a while back at

I gave some links to photos b/c I didn't have (and still don't...) a digital camera. My neighbors on the other side of the block have quite a stand of these plants, bounded on four sides by concrete, and a good thing, too...

Yep, that's it. Interesting plant. I was just reading that the "leaves" are the tiny frays around the bands. Some are supposed to produce pine cone-like tips, which are full of spores.

AKA scouring rush, as Native Americans used it for scrubbing pots and pans (contains silica).

Thanks, Cynthia.
