A beginning Juniper

Yesterday, I decided to mess around with that 4 dollar nursery Juniper. THis was the one that my daughter picked out - I had posted a picture of it last fall:

(I didn't take progress pictures - sorry!) I didn't want to go for a cascade on this so I basically cut off most of the super long branches and tilted the plant at a different angle - no root prune

I found that if I took it one cut at a time, a shape began to emerge - I constantly held it in position in the pot to get a better look at it... and stepping away for a few minutes (after misting the roots) also helped because other cuts became obvious then - this plant lost at least half its' branches...

I also wired a few branches for the first time! :)

anyhoo - It has something that I like a lot more - given that this is a fledgling plant and came from a box store nursery - I kinda like it - even though it's a bit messy on that lower left - I'll let this grow for a long while now, only pinching here and there...

different soil too - lava, turface, bark, sand (tiny kind), small pebbles, a bit of the old soil

Wiring it down is not the best styling advice. What it needs now is to grow and develop. Unless you are happy with the trunks thickness, it is not ready for any styling.

I just wired a few of the branches to get them going in a better direction
