I'm excited.. tell me what you guys think!!
thank you! I actually removed the moss as to let the tree breathe better. I am new to bonsai.. I have a Juniper and now the Elm.. so I ask alot of ?'s here and re-ask to just be sure.. I am not that confident about doing this stuff.. I am better off just having someone just show me pictures of what they are talking about.. so.. like I said I ask alot.. I just don't want to kill the little trees.. I am nervous about the up coming winter months but I think I have it handled with the help of a few people here.. thanks guys!
wow.. that was a long winter here! I repotted my elm tonight.. I trimmed the roots down because it was still root bound. I washed off the roots with water and trimmed. soaked them in water for about a half hr and repotted it. it is looking good.. starting to get little buds growing.
also my juniper is starting to have new growth.. so I did the same for it.. I also had a new pot for it.
the main thing.. they trees lived through the winter! lol

Ken,
How do you feel now that you have your first winter behind you? I had a very hard time overwintering when I first started out and I still have some problems from time to time. One of the thread grafted branches on my Chinese Elm did not leaf out this spring.
Make sure to post new pictures when it is a little further along.

Tom,
It appears so. The lower branch did not leaf out and although I waited patiently all of the secondary branches on it dried out. I cut them off and left the main portion. I have taken emergency measures but so far no luck. I have been meaning to update the thread but I was trying to wait it out to see if the branch would recover. I'll post some pictures in the next day or so.

I will get some pics up this weekend. I feel alot better about my first winter.. I had made up a styrofoam box placed the trees in them and packed the box with leaves so it would stay insulated.. but we ended up with a ton of water in the yard just as winter started.. so I had to take them out of there and just direct bury them out of the wind. they both started to have little buds on them so I dug them up, trimmed the roots and repotted them with new bonsai soil mix. extremely free draining mixture.
