Mugo Pine

The other day I was in Home Depot (with no intention for finding Bonsai stock) and I figured I might as well check the garden center to see if I could find anything. Needless to say, I came across a small collection of Mugo pines, and picked one up for $5. I read up on Mugos, and found that they like to be repotted and rootpruned in the summer instead of spring. (The article where I found this info if anyones interested https://www.bonsai4me.com/AdvTech/ATMugo%20Pines%20Indepth.htm)
So today I decided I would repot and rootprune as well as thin out some foliage. This is a before picture

And after. I haven't decided which side to make the front yet, I'm thinking the one pictured first.

This still needs a lot of work, but I think it looks pretty good comparing to what it started out as. Depending on how this recovers, I might do some wiring in autumn, but I think I should wait until next year. I still need to research a bit more.

As always, thoughts/comments are welcome

Joe,

That looks like a decent tree for the money you paid. You might want to Google the name "Vance Wood" He is well known to be experienced with this species. By the way he suggests that Scots Pines be handled the same way, re-potted during summer.

It is nice. I really hope it makes it.

That sounds familiar. I think I cam across his site when browsing for info on this species. I'll have to explore the site more.
