This was a volunteer plant about 5 foot tall in a flowerbed last spring. Trunk chopped it down at about 5 inches from the soil line and stuck it in a bulb pan not really concerned if it made it or not. Here it is this morning. With the new leader it's about 21 inches tall and the trunk diameter is about 3 inches at the soil line.

Had a big taproot which was removed and it has pushed new roots well.

I'm wanting it to start bulking up, so it was moved to a 3 gallon Rootmaker this morning. I'll probably let it go a few years without disturbing it now.

Hi NormGnome wrote:Randy,
Have you used this species as bonsai before? Someone in my area has these in their yard and keeps them pruned back pretty well. I have been eying them up for a few years now. Perhaps I'll stop and ask him if he has an extra stashed away somewhere. Thanks for the pictures.
Norm
Haven't used it before, but I think it has potential.
