Yes, I know the whole theory behind bonsai is that you can take any tree from the wild and make it miniature. But sometimes it's a little cool to come across it for real?
I kept running across posts about Schefflera's, and how they can make good bonsai trees. I thought I'd get one (I still didn't know what they looked like), so my boyfriend Cody and I went to a garden center to look at them. We finally found them, and he says, "Boy, that looks a lot like Clarise..."
So here's Clarise. Yes, we have this strange thing about naming plants. He's had Clarise about 10 years now, it used to be his sisters tree. His sister had transplanted it and put it outside, but that night they had their first frost. It just about killed Clarise, and I think his sister lost interest - she stopped taking care of it, so he did.
Clarise is probably well over 6 feet tall by now - taller than both of us, and in the first picture, she's sitting in front of the corner of his front porch. It takes both Cody and his dad to transplant her if she needs a new pot. And the root system looks cool!

Thanks for the info, Tex. I don't think I'll be turning this particular schefflera into a bonsai though - she's taller than I am, so I think it would take more patience than I have.
