Watermelons, how many can I grow on 1 plant?

I only have 1 wm plant this season. It is in a pot that I think is 8 or 9 gallons.

I have 4 melons growing on it that I have found so far. There may be more.

Do I need to cull some? If so how many can I keep?

Also of note, one of my cats likes to murder the leaves on that plant.

So I have to babysit him when he goes out on the deck.

I have heard you should be able to get 2 - 4 watermelons per plant.
