Question about morning glories.

I have planted lots of different types of morning glories. I cant help but notice that they just go in a straight vine in a certain direction? I thought they'd branch out and and grab everything else, why don't morning glories send off shoots from the sides and spread? why just in a straight line? Thanks!

They will if you cut them. Most vines will still move in the direction of the most light and up anything in the way. Morning glory is a weed for me.

@imafan26 I grow them in containers, they're so pretty. So if I Cut off the top, itll split into two?
