Indoor Plant Rescue

Can anyone help me with this plant? does it need a climbing trellis? trimming? is it a Philodendron? it has velvety leaves, and I'm thinking its not looking too healthy, thanks so much!

There are around a thousand species of Philodendron and they look quite different. But yes I think yours is one of them. They are tropical rain forest species, which evolved to climb trees, not stand on their own. If you want it more upright, it would need support. But it can just sprawl.

They are used to getting a lot of their water from dew and fog, so be sure you mist your plant daily. Soil should be very well draining, with some sand or bark mixed in.

Welcome to the Forum! Hopefully someone will come along who knows more about these plants than I do :)

Thanks rainbowgardener, I'm still trying to help this one grow and websites have contradictions about whether to keep moist or let dry out! but apparently its a Alocasia black velvet, so I'll keep looking :) thanks!
