My Aloe plant is in the garden and winter is coming.

I've had an aloe plant for about 4 years, this last winter it was looking like it was going to die. So in the spring I planted it in the garden and it came back to life. After about 4 and a half month outside in the sun and shade it is time to do something to keep it healthy over the winter. I was wondering if I should leave it in the garden? Maybe cover it with a 5 gallon bucket, or a bunch of hay? Can I pot it and bring it inside? How big should the pot be? I have no picture now, it is a small aloe plant and is growing a lot lately. Thank you, Jim

You will need to dig it up and put it in a pot. In your zone it won't survive over the winter outside. You can gauge what size pot. It should be one third the height of the plant. Or dig it up and put it in a pot that is 2" larger then the rootball.

Thanks Newt, I'll Give it a try. I'm a little worried because in the past I have been horrible at repotting plants. Thanks again, Browersjr

You are so very welcome! Aloe does grow faster outdoors then indoors, so the ones you dig up will grow more slowly now, especially in winter. Maybe this will be helpful. Look at some of the links on the left too.
