Must be bug month...

I noticed today what looked like scale insects on my anthurium. I had been checking it closely since the last 3 new leaves have been 'curly' & wondered what was up. I cleaned off the 'bugs' with damp cleansing cotton pads but all I could see on the pad was brown, rusty looking dirt- not what I would expect for insects. I'm baffled as to what else it could be. Any ideas welcome! :D

You were correct -- those are Scales. They have waxy coating that resist soap. I usually use rubbing alcohol on cotton swabs (mentholated spirits on cotton buds :wink: )

Yes they would look like flakes of brownish wax.
